Senate Screens 5 more nominees today

The Nigeria Senate has screened five more ministerial nominees.min screening contd1

They are Pastor Usani Usani Nguru, Barigadier General Mansur Mohammed Dan’ali, Zainab Ahmed, Geofrey Onyema and Abubakar Bawa Bwari and Professor Adewole Folorunsho.

They represent Cross River, Zamfara, Kaduna, Enugu, Niger and Osun States.

First to mount the rostrum was Professor Adewole Folorunso, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, South West Nigeria.

In his defence, the advocated vocational education and National Open Unversity system with quality content and regulation.

Rt. Hon. Abubakar Bawa Bwari was the next in line. Bawa Bwari, a former principal officer of the House of Representatives was the Chief Whip  during the speakership of Ghali Umar N’abba. He replaced Alhaji Musa Ibeto who was withdrawn by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his defence, Bwari recounted with nolstagia, his membership of the House of Representatives and tied his inspirition to serve to the national anthem while committing himself to serve with probity accountability and optimal performance.

Bawa Bwari told the Senate that the problems with the Federal Capital Territory was consequent upon the non adherence to the stipulations of the Abuja Masterplan and vowed to ensure compliance if designated the FCT portfolio.

Geofery Onyema followed suit. He spoke with poise and finesse; displaying his ivy league credentials. As an intellectual property rights expert, he said he will bring his multinational connection to bear in uplifting the abused intellectual property and patent right of Nigerians and stimulate the GDP. On the dysfunctional capital market of the nation, Dr.Onyema explains that insider abuse and lack of confidence were responsible for the problems bedevilling the sector and called for confidence building and integrity among players and regulators.

Mr Geofery Onyema holds a Bachelors Degree in Law from Cambridge University.

Zainab Ahmed, the Kaduna State nominee said she was not proud of the defunct Nigeria Telecommunication (NITEL), where she started her career.

She currently works with the Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

She called for the abrogation of Joint Venture agreement, posits that cash calls is outregeously expensive to be maintained and sustained while requesting the National Assembly to consider NEITI reports before it. Ahmed proposed the re-organization of illegal mining for profit.
