Senate Concludes Ministerial Screening

The Nigerian senate has concluded screening of ministerial nominees sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari. Prior to the commencement of the min screening concludesexercise, Senator Dino Melaye moved a motion for the construction of a second runway for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport which was adopted by the senate.

The first to appear before the senate was Okechukwu Enyinna Enelama, the nominee for Abia state, a medical doctor turned financial expert, who eloquently acquitted himself to the delight of the senate.

Enelama answered questions ranging from finance and the economy to education and security.

Enelama while acknowledging that US recovery was sending shockwaves to emerging markets like Nigeria, called for support for the real sector like manufacturing and industries. He said that Nigeria stands to gain a lot if it places less emphasis on oil with enabling environment like legislations and adequate regulatory framework, working cohesively and pulling in the same direction.

He reiterated that human capital development and rapid skills acquisition for the Nigerian youth is the way forward. In proposing a blueprint for a prosperous Nigeria as requested by Senator Ben Bruce, Enelama said devaluation of the currency without corresponding policies to take advantage of opportunities presented by such policies equals to nothing.

While pledging to work with the PDP government in his home state, Abia, said he had no political ambition which often pitted people against themselves and noted that his nomination was not political rather for the technocratic advantage he has. He said Nigeria needs a defined sense of direction, being investor friendly and coupled with adequate infrastructural renewal to facilitate and coordinate development variables. These qualities and prerequisites he describes as enabling environment. He is a graduate of Harvard University.

Others screened today are Prof. Anthony Anwuka, the nominee for Imo state, Mohammed Musa Bello and Aisha Abubakar, nominees for Adamawa and Sokoto States respectively among others. Nominees await confirmation.
