Senate Amends Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act

In a bid to streamline the code of conduct tribunal to conform with best practices and modern realities, the senate today debated a bill for an Act to amend the code of conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act CAP C15 LFN and for other related matters standing in the name of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi – Delta North.

This is as the senate has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA) to brief in a closed session over recovery status and efforts of Chibok Girls.

Standing in the name of Senator Dino Melaye- Kogi West, the motion: Abduction of Chibok School Girls- Two years after, the senate expressed sadness about the long absence of the Chibok school Girls abducted by the Boko Haram Insurgents from Chibok Community two years ago.

The Senate notes that 14th of this mouth (today) makes it 730 days 17,520 hrs and 1,051,200 minutes that the chibok school girls have been under captivity.

The Senate worried also that despite the rumoured negotiations slated for Saudi Arabia for their release, everything proved a sham which has wrongly affected Nigeria’s image as a nation as could be seen in the International Condemnation of the governments slow pace to the unprecedented outrage committed against Nigerian womanhood, the Senate empathized with the parents and the entire people of Chibok over this ugly incidence, commended the Bring Back Our Girls Campaigners for their doggedness in the campaign for the release of the girls.

The Senate Mandated the Security Agencies to expedite action in releasing the girls while urging the Federal Government to take over the Chibok Community School as a Federal Government School for rebuilding and rehabilitation.

Earlier, the senate received public petitions by Senator Chukwuka Otaze –Enugu North on behalf of Ochima Community, over appeal on encroachment of Ochima residential Land located in Enugu State by the Nigerian Army.

Petition was referred to the senate committee on Ethics, privileges and Public Petitions.
